EDUCATION LEADERS FALL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION

The 44th Annual Education Leaders Fall Conference & Exhibition, hosted by the Illinois

Principals Association (IPA), will take place October 18–20, 2015 in Peoria, IL. This year’s theme is Telling the Story of Educational Service and Leadership. Approximately 600 principals from throughout the state will attend to hear outstanding educational leaders and participate in educational sessions on serving their students and schools.

The conference will kick off with a reception Sunday evening (sponsored by Association Member Benefits Advisors) to honor IPA Past Presidents. On Monday, Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, national speaker and President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, will keynote the opening session. Principals have a unique opportunity to create a safe and nurturing environment in our schools to ensure success for children. Dr. Hrabowski’s presentation, Overcoming the Odds: Importance of Investing in our Youth and Providing Opportunities for all Children, illustrates how success is attainable through effective parenting, high expectations, strong communication, and full use of community resources.

Dr. Tony Smith, State Superintendent of Schools, will update attendees on the state of education in Illinois at the Second General Session Monday afternoon. Colonel Arthur Athens, U.S.M.C. (Ret.), Director, Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership, U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD will present the closing session, The Power of Integrity (sponsored by State Farm). This presentation will inspire attendees to live lives of purpose and impact, and build teams founded on trust and commitment.

A variety of Small Group Sessions on important topics such as school safety, literacy and study skills, legal & legislative updates, Google Apps, bullying, and more will be offered over the course of the two days. During IPA’s Awards for Excellence program (sponsored by Horace Mann) a highlight of the conference, school administrators will be recognized for their work for students and staff.   Several students from Illinois schools will be showcased as they post the colors and sing the National Anthem at the First General Session.

Other conference activities include an educational exhibition of the latest in educational products and services. Exhibitors and conference sponsors are featured on the IPA website at www.ilprincipals.org. Attendees may also purchase resource materials at the Bookstore, a collaboration with the Illinois Association of School Boards.
