International Animal Experts Speaking at Puppy Mill Awareness, Advocacy and Action Event at Capitol

Celebrity Animal Experts Victoria Stilwell & Dr. Marc Abraham Appearing at Free Advocacy Event

Harrisburg,Pennsylvania (PR MediaRelease) October 10, 2018

Free Puppy Mill Awareness, Advocacy and Action Event for animal advocates, legislators and media, featuring internationally renown animal experts Victoria Stilwell and Dr Marc Abraham, is being held on Monday, October 15, 2018, at 12:00 pm in the media center of Capitol Building, Harrisburg, Pa. The free, bi-partisan event is being hosted by Justice for Libre Animal Advocacy Action Group, Finding Shelter Animal Rescue and the Humane Society of Pennsylvania and includes a  light lunch for attendees. RSVP is required.

This exciting and informative gathering features guest speakers Victoria Stilwell, world-renowned dog trainer and behavior expert and author, star of Animal Planet’s It’s Me or the Dog, editor-in-chief of positively.com, CEO of Victoria Stilwell Postively Dog Training (VSPDT) and Executive Director of the Victoria Stilwell Foundation and veterinarian Marc Abraham, founder of animal welfare campaign Pup Aid who led grassroots efforts to see the successful passing of Lucy’s Law to end third-party puppy and kitten sales in England. Both Marc and Victoria have participated in hands-on puppy mill dog rescue missions in Pennsylvania.

The event is being held to promote the upcoming SB 1154 Puppy Mill Retail Sales Bill which would require pet stores to source animals from shelters and rescues rather than from puppy mill operations and require license numbers posted with all puppies for sale to allow transparency for the consumer. PA legislators including Sen. Guy Reschenthaler (R-37), Sen. Andy Dinniman (D-19), Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-46) will speak on SB 1154.

  • SB 1154: PA ranks among the worst states in the nation with regard to consumer complaints about puppy mill animals.  Too often, the puppies are unsocialized to the point of serious behavior problems, sick, and/or dying.  Conditions in many puppy mill operations are atrocious.  Our society needs to take action to stop this cruelty.

Also, being promoted is HB 1216 Motor Vehicle Extreme Heat Protection Act which will protect dogs and cats from distress in motor vehicles by allowing public safety professionals to remove unattended dogs/cats without liability for damages. Rep.  Frank Farry (R-142) and Rep. Dom Costa (D-21), supported by Ted Leonard, Executive Director for AAA Pennsylvania, will speak on HB 1216.

  • HB 1216: Pets are unable to regulate body temperature in the manner that humans do.  They can easily overheat or die if left in a hot vehicle even for a short amount of time.  We need this bill passed into law to protect the animals and the safety officers who rescue them.

Representatives from shelters/rescues and numerous canine ambassadors/puppy mill survivors from across the state, as well a number of PA’s humane legislators will be there to show support for the bills and interact with advocates.

The speaking presentation will begin at noon in the Capitol Building Media Center followed by a light luncheon buffet served nearby in the Capitol Building.

The event is FREE but an RSVP  is required at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/puppy-mill-awareness-advocacy-and-action-tickets-50990729645 to attend the event and luncheon.

Media coverage is encouraged at this educational and informative event on critical subject facing the legislators and constituents of Pennsylvania.
