Dozens of Independent Truckers will Circle the State Capitol, Tuesday August 13, from 11:30 AM to 1PM; 12:30 PM Press Conference
Truck Convoy to Underscore Guild Opposition to AB 5
WHEN: Tuesday, August 13. Convoy begins at 11:30 a.m.; press conference at 12:30 p.m.
WHO: Dozens of independent truckers and Guild representatives.
WHAT: Truck convoy around the Capitol to raise awareness of the impact AB 5 will have on thousands of independent truckers, many of whom are immigrants and minorities.
WHERE: Convoy to converge around the State Capitol; press conference at 12:30 on the South Steps.
WHY: The Guild was formed in the wake of the Dynamex court decision that could eliminate legitimate owner-operators in California. The Guild’s goal is to protect and retain independent owner operators in construction and agriculture.
Specifically, Assembly Bill 5 is working its way through the legislature to codify construction truck owner operators as employees – thereby reversing decades of accepted independence that allowed these owners decide whom they want to work for and when they want to work.
Over the past several weeks, Guild Truckers have flooded Governor Newsom’s office with phone calls and email in an effort to protect their own businesses by
urging the governor to oppose AB 5. For more information: www.catruckersguild.org
